Another List of Intangibles

The best team won, but nobody knows how.
Studying the film, you begin to see
chinks and cracks, fault-lines
invariably leading to earthquakes-
but we’re told the gravity of stars
is defined by the weakest of forces.
What looks like an elephant
is a cloud on an updraft.
What sounds like a freight train
is only rain.   Ultimately,
what holds anything together-
sub-atomic muons or bubble gum?
Bubble gum, with my luck.
Sometimes I scare myself into thinking
I understand how it all works.
What peace in not having to wonder
or worry about wondering,
back on the couch
with a beer, watching my team
go down for the thirteenth time in a row.
And this is all you can offer me?
Will?  Heart?  Desire?
Intestinal fortitude?  Or lack thereof?
A shrew crosses a field at night.
Galaxies of neurons explode in an owl’s eye.
Give me a break.
